Turtle Foundation Newsletter December 2018

Dear Friends and Supporters of Turtle Foundation,

As always, as the end of the year draws nearer, we would like to give you a brief overview of our projects and activities to protect endangered sea turtles and our oceans.

Nesting loggerhead sea turtle on Boavista, Cape Verde

On Boavista we had an amazing nesting season, which completely surprised us with an incredible threefold increase of nesting loggerhead turtles (picture right) even compared to so far record seasons; however, we were able to successfully combat poaching with our new night vision drone initiative. In Indonesia we founded a new project for the protection of leatherback sea turtles on the Island of Sipora off West Sumatra.

1st prize: diving safari on the MV Pindito

But before you continue, we would like to draw your attention to our big Turtle Foundation Raffle, which is almost cult especially in the scuba diver community, and which we will hold already for the 10th time in February 2019. For this anniversary raffle we were able to acquire 34 great prizes in the form of diving trips and equipment with a total value of about 30,000 € or 35,000 CHF/US$! The main prize is a 12-day diving safari on the MV Pindito, where you can explore the magnificent underwater world around the Indonesian island of Komodo and its neighbouring islands. The entire proceeds of the raffle will benefit our conservation projects. The prizes were donated by renowned diving tour operators and diving equipment suppliers, to whom we are deeply grateful for this. Everybody can participate by filling our online form, personal presence at the raffle is not necessary. You will find more information and the order form for raffle tickets here on our website.

But also if the raffle is not your thing you could help us directly. Our goal is to considerably contribute in saving sea turtles from extinction, and with the generous help of our supporters we already achieved a lot. However, to continue our projects and to put them on a sustainable basis there is still a lot of work ahead of us. We hope that you will consider making this possible with a generous – and much-appreciated – donation.
