Recently, Karine Mendes (Communication Officer & Management Assistant) and Wilma Moreira (Fieldwork Coordinator) from Fundação Tartaruga in Boa Vista visited the Turtle Foundation team in Cologne, Germany. Together with CEO Ukie Resende and the Turtle Foundation Germany team members Dr. Hiltrud Cordes, Janin Bartoschek, and Thomas Reischig, they participated in an intensive strategy meeting to discuss the further development of our Boa Vista program and explore new perspectives together.

Strengthening Strategic Goals and the Local Network

Before the meeting, Karine and Wilma shared their expectations and goals: they hoped to adjust or set new objectives to create more structure and efficiency within the organization. They also aim to integrate scientific work more closely into daily project activities and use the collected data to derive concrete, long-term measures for the future of turtle conservation.

Another focus is building a stronger local network: involving more national volunteers and collaborating more closely with universities is intended to support young professionals and expand the pool of rangers and coordinators with English skills — an important step for improving fieldwork quality and fostering international collaboration.

Shared Vision and Stronger Team Cohesion

Beyond strategic planning, the visit also provided an opportunity to deepen personal collaboration. Direct exchange strengthened trust and connections between the Fundação Tartaruga and Turtle Foundation teams — a valuable foundation for working together to protect sea turtles on Boa Vista.
