TURTLE FOUNDATION PROJECT CAPE VERDE:
Turtle Foundation began this project in 2008, after receiving reports of over 1100 turtles slaughtered in 2007. With support from the local military and the participation of international volunteers, Turtle Foundation is implementing patrols on the beaches of Boavista Island to protect the female Loggerhead turtles from being brutally killed by poachers as they come ashore to nest. We also educate school children and the community about sea turtle biology, organize beach clean-ups, help train local guides to take tourists on sea turtle walks, and promote solutions to benefit both the turtles and the local community.
TURTLE FOUNDATION PROJECT BERAU ISLANDS:
Turtle Foundation operates a nesting ground protection program for Green sea turtles on three uninhabited islands in the Berau islands off the coast of East Kalimantan, Indonesia. The total number of nests on the three islands is approximately 6000 per year, saving over 600,000 hatchlings a year. The project is in cooperation with the local Conservation Authority and employs 15 local, yearround salaried employees. This project began in 2000 on one island, and has since expanded to include other islands in the region. Turtle Foundation also seeks to discourage reef bombing and sharkfinning, both common practices on the reefs of Berau.
TURTLE FOUNDATION PROJECT BALI:
Turtle Foundation also partly finances and supports a turtle protection program of the Indonesian species protection organization ProFauna, targeting the trade of turtle meat on the island of Bali.

The Turtle Foundation regularly receives requests for support from many turtle protecting organizations. However, due to limited financial resources, we still mainly focus on our own projects in East-Kalimantan, Indonesia, and in Boavista in Cape Verde. Nevertheless, if financially possible, we wish to support other projects as we already do in the case of ProFauna (Project Bali).
In order to continue its successful work the Turtle Foundation urgently needs additional financial support.
