In the Northern part of the archipelago where large numbers of adult turtles go regularly to feed and rest (Pulau Panjang) a ranger station was built and rangers were stationed permanently to survey and protect the area.
Before the presence of rangers in this area large numbers of adult turtles were caught on the shallow reef around Pulau Panjang. This has now stopped.
