The Turtle Foundation is an international charitable organization with offices in the United States, Germany, Switzerland and Indonesia. The foundation is a dedicated volunteer effort. In order to continue its successful work the foundation urgently needs additional financial support.
Hotspot Cape Verde
Brutal sea turtle killings in a holiday destination? Blood-stained beaches? We couldn't believe it until we saw it ourselves on site. What we saw made us work even harder to be ready for the 2008 nesting season lasting from June until October. During these months thousands of Loggerhead turtles, Caretta caretta, come ashore to nest. Many of them crawl directly into the knives of the sea turtle killers that are eagerly waiting for them each night. This year, however, will be different on at least one important nesting beach on the island of Boavista where the Turtle Foundation has set up a beach protection program. Sadly enough this is only one of many nesting beaches on Cape Verde that is in urgent need of protection.
