Born June 29, 1974 in Krayan, Ostkalimantan, Indonesia Education: Bachelor of social sciences and politics
I was born in the mountains at an altitude of 1000 meters in a small village, where the people were farmers close to the forest producing rice, etc. During my childhood I used to play most of the time in the forest near my village.
When I was 9 years old my family moved to a large city, where I went to school and university. During my studies, I was active in the organization "natural friends". We were climbing mountains, river-rafting, caving and hiking. A few times I was actively involved in a research project called "Pesut". "Pesut" are fresh water dolphins living in the Mahakam River in Ostborneo.
Some day in 2003 I was asked if I wanted to work as a volunteer for the Turtle Foundation, where I learnt about the nearby natural habitat of the sea turtles. I was very attracted by this offer and immediately fell in love with these animals, so that I decided to stay with the Turtle Foundation. Although I grew up in the mountains I now like it very much to live most of the time on the islands in the open sea watching sea turtles laying their eggs. When I see baby-turtles hatch, it is always something special for me. We know that by protecting the eggs we make it possible for baby-turtles to hatch. All this had its beginnings with my life during my childhood in nature.
I hope that in the future our children and grandchildren will be able to see and enjoy the forests as well as the sea and its fauna. It is up to us now to make this happen.
