The TURTLE FOUNDATION has been running a particularly successful conservation project on Sangalaki Island off Borneo in Indonesia since the year 2000. As a result of this project more than 350,000 turtles are saved annually. Since the beginning of 2008 we have been protecting two other important nesting islands of the Derawan Archipelago: Bilangbilangan and Mataha. As a result of this expansion of our project, we have been able to noticeably increase the number of hatchlings saved: In 2008 alone about one million hatchlings were saved on these three islands!
Since we have started our protection program in Indonesia in 2000, the TURTLE FOUNDATION has saved more than 3 million hatchlings!
In summer 2008 we started a new protection project on Cape Verde, which prevents the brutal killing of nesting sea turtles.
During the 2008 nesting season our patrols prevented several hundred adult sea turtles from being slaughtered by poachers.

Thanks to high efficiency, practically no administrative overhead costs and lots of volunteer work the annual budget for our projects can be kept low.
In addition to its own projects, the Turtle Foundation supports other local projects in the protection of sea turtles.
